Tshwane metro fails to repair pipe

Water in Christoffel Street in Pretoria West has been running in the street for ten days and nothing is being done about it.

A Pretoria West woman has been struggling for 10 days with the Tshwane metro for a burst pipe to be fixed in front of her place of residence.

The metro had been maintaining since 9 July — the day the problem began — that the pipe had been fixed, Elsabe van Zyl.

“I sent an e-mail to customer care and potholes to report the burst water pipe but nothing is being done.”

She said she contacted the metro again and they gave her reference numbers, saying the burst pipe had been fixed but it was still leaking.

“There is so much water being wasted and we are always told to save water. Not all South Africans have running water and the municipality does not care about saving water.”

She said the metro had been notifying her that the burst pipe had been fixed but it was still leaking. “First they gave me the wrong reference number and only later did they give the correct reference number. Not only did the metro give me a false reference number they also told me they cannot find Christoffel Street in Pretoria West,” Van Zyl said.

While talking to the call centre agent she was cut off. “The water is still running and no one from the metro has come out to fix the problem.”

An enquiry has been sent to the Tshwane Metro to attend to the matter.
