Power restored in Centurion

Power was fully restored in the affected Centurion areas after the Brakfontein substation was vandalised in the early hours of Tuesday.

Power has been restored and things are running smoothly after the Brakfontein substation was vandalised by cable thieves early Tuesday morning.

Selby Bokaba, spokesperson for the Tshwane metro, said that the restoration was done within a few hours enabling residents to receive power from another supply point while the substation was being repaired.

“The outage was caused by acts of theft and vandalism of electrical cables at the substation. All the areas that were affected now have power,” he said.

Bokaba said the Brakfontein substation was vandalised in a in a space of three weeks. “After the first burglary, security was beefed-up at the substations within the area. We are currently investigation how the cable thieves managed to gain entry to the substation with improved and enhanced security. Though the damage was minimal compared to the previous incident,” he said.

He attributed the minimal damage to the enhanced security. Bokaba assured residents that the metro would increase its vigilance around the substations and called on the public to report suspicious activities around substations to the police.
