Woman jumps from Sunnyside building

A woman jumped from a building in Sunnyside in an alleged suicide.

A woman is dead after jumping from the seventh floor of a high-rise building in Sunnyside Friday morning.

Coba Brits, Sunnyside police spokesperson, said the woman was last seen by witnesses entering the building just before 10:00. She jumped from the student apartment building Zethushof in Park Street and was declared dead on the scene.

“We cannot confirm yet whether she resided in the building and it is still unclear how she gained entry to the building. Police found some of her belongings in one of the apartments,” Brits said.

An eyewitness told Rekord she was buying airtime when there was a short yelp and the sound of the woman hitting the ground.

The building is occupied by students of the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Pretoria Campus. TUT could not be reached for comment.

The Sunnyside police are investigating.
