Animals disposed at illegal dumping site
Tshwane metro called upon to act on the illegal dumping on their piece of land in Pretoria West.
Illegal dumping in Pretoria West on the corner of Rebecca and Carl Street, has residents concerned about their own health as well as that of the entire area.
On Friday, a business owner near the illegal dumping site contacted the area patrol for assistance, as people had started burning rubble and animal corpses there.“We were called out and when we arrived there we found dead animals and a lot of rubbish. The mentioned spot is where the Tshwane metro keep their big containers, near the SAPS college,” Barries Barenhorst from the area patrol said.
He mentioned that the fencing around the area was stolen by criminals to sell at scrap metal dealerships. He added that people are also cutting up the bins and selling them as scrap metal. South African National Civics Organisation (Sanco) chairperson, Nagesh Chetty said it is a total disgrace what people are doing to dump and dispose of dead animals in front of the SAPS college. It is illegal and unhygienic.
“We as Sanco have been complaining about this to Tshwane metro for a year but they do not co-operate with us. The councillors just take their pay and forget about the community.”
Chetty said crime is getting out of hand due to scrap metal dealers who buy things illegally.
“We call upon the Metro Police and SAPS to check on the so-called small business metal buyers and sellers, in order to stop the ongoing crime in this regard,” Chetty said.
Barenhorst said the illegal dumping site is a sore eye in front of the SAPS College as well as for Pretoria.
“The Tshwane metro knows about this and it is time they act on it.” Barenhorst said.
