Scout hall site gets a facelift
The Scout Hall grounds in Wierda Park has had a facelift and it has never looked better than now.
The Scout Hall grounds in Wierda Park has had a facelift. The community partnered with Tshwane metro to upgrade the property when they realised the dusty site posed a health hazard to children.
Scout committee member Gillian Coetzee said she approached ward councillor Marika Kruger-Muller to pave the driveway. “We realised that children were at risk of inhaling the dust and on rainy days, the mud would be terrible. The new look will also attract more people to activities at the hall,” said Coetzee.
Councillor Kruger-Muller said the metro was delighted to be part of the improvements and will continue to support the community.
Coetzee said Scouts South Africa is the biggest youth organisation in the country with over 308 000 children, youth and adults nationwide. She explained what values they add to society: “Scouting changes lives and helps people to reach their full potential. Leadership abilities, team work, self motivation, perseverance and cultural awareness and strong values are just a few of the life skills our members acquire while having fun and learning. Positive peer pressure and outdoor activities all contribute to individuals growing up with the belief that they can change the world and we are glad our children will be able to do that without any health risks.”
