Roadworks to fix a water leak in Capital Park has residents concerned about the safety of motorists.
Residents say excavations on the corner of Myburgh Street and 7th Avenue has several barriers around it and occupies an entire lane, posing a threat to motorists, especially at night.
One resident, Mark Gray, said he has actually seen a car trying to overtake another and then had to brake suddenly, narrowly missing the barriers.
“Luckily the driver saw the barriers, but they are not very clear from the other side and I am scared that someone could injure themselves seriously if they drive into the hole or hit the barriers,” Gray said.
He told Rekord the excavated area and water leak are a catch 22 situation when it comes to fixing the problem.
“Several service workers have come out to evaluate the problem and the men sent to fix the hole in the road say they can’t do it before the water leak is fixed, while the men sent to fix the water leak say the hole needs to be fixed first,” a frustrated Gray said.
Elma Nel, Democratic Alliance ward councillor in the area, said she had not been informed of the problem, but she will attend to it as soon as possible.
“It is important that residents keep me informed of problems like these, in order for me to help fix them. I will address this problem as soon as possible,” Nel said.
Tshwane metro was not available for comment.
