A R13 million cable upgrade underway

The Tshwane metro’s R13-million cable upgrade will hopefully bring relief to Eersterust residents after continued power outages.

The Tshwane metro has vowed to bring an end to repeated power failures in Eersterust and surrounding areas, spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.

The services infrastructure department would use money from the emergency budget to replace five old core cables at its Waltloo substation at a cost of R13 million.

The cables would be replaced one at a time to minimise disruptions. The metro would keep customers informed of planned power interruptions during the maintenance period.

“Maintenance will take two weeks, mainly during the day when the load is minimal. There will be a dedicated standby team for Eersterust during this period so that the metro can monitor and respond quickly to outages,” Mashigo said.
