An illegal dumping site has sprung up on the corner of Glover and North avenues in Lyttelton. The mess was brought to the attention of Rekord by Mrs Catherine Blake, a resident of the La Vie Retirement Village, a peaceful retirement home close to the dump.
Mrs Blake said she recently noticed a refuse removal truck cleaning up in the area, but it did not bother to remove any of the items that had been discarded at the new dumping site. “It gets worse by the day.”
A variety of old and broken items have simply been discarded next to the road, including bits of a car bumper, broken glass bottles and broken tiles, still in the original box.
The dump is an eyesore that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible by the municipality.
Tshwane Metro was unavailable for comment at the time of going to print.
