Dumpsite finally cleaned

The illegal dumping site at the entrance of the SAPS College in Pretoria West, finally cleaned up.

After struggling to get the Tshwane metro to clean a portion of land at the entrance to the SAPS College on the corner of Rebecca and Carl Street, the community is pleased that something is finally being done.

“Although it took the metro a long time to do something about the problem, we are pleased they took us seriously after the

media intervened,” a business owner in the area said.

The corner of Carl and Rebecca streets was being used as a dumping site were dead animals and rubble were disposed of. Residents

and business owners in the area had been complaining about the dump for a while and had no joy from the metro.

“We want to thank Rekord for their help, because after they published the first article on the dump, the metro took action,” said

South African National Civics Organisation’s (Sanco) Nagesh Chetty.

Chetty said the metro started cleaning the portion of land on Monday and Tuesday and were still busy cleaning.

“I saw trucks there taking away the bins and cleaning the area.”

Silvia Muller who lives close to the dump, said that she is happy that there is something being done about the problem.

“It is good that the place is cleaned up, but it is sad that people will start dumping there again, because they are used to it

being a dump.”

“The Tshwane metro only reacts to the community’s complaints after we call upon the media,” said Chetty.

“We received a call about dead animals being burned at the place and rubbish being dumped there.”
