Man in critical condition after shooting

A man is in a critical condition after he was shot in his home during an attempted house robbery.

A 44-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was shot during a house robbery in Hesteapark on Wednesday morning (10 September).

The shooting occurred in Wildebees Avenue around 03:00. The man’s wife was with him at the time but was not injured during the shooting.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said the man was treated on scene and rushed to a nearby hospital while being cared for by an Advanced Life Support paramedic.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the injured man lying on the floor with critical injuries,” she said.

Steinmann said details about the shooting and preceding events remains the subject of a police investigation.

Captain Riana van Aarde, Akasia police spokesperson, said they were investigating a case of armed robbery.

Cell phones, laptop and a flat screen TV were robbed. The police are still investigating what other items were stolen.
