Arnold Pistorius, Oscar Pretorius’ uncle, said a big burden had been lifted off their shoulders with today’s findings in the murder trial.
Arnold addressed the media shortly after the court adjourned on Friday afternoon and said the Pistorius family are very grateful towards Judge Thokozile Masipa. The judge extended Oscar’s bail until 13 October when he is expected to be sentenced.
“We never had any doubt in Oscar’s version of the incident, but it is not over yet,” said Arnold. He added it would be irresponsible for the family to make further statements as yet. “We respect that the legal process must run its course. In a tragic event like this, there are no victors.”
He said nothing will ever bring Reeva Steenkamp back but their hearts go out to her family and friends. “Against this background we won’t make further statements or take questions.”
