Sutherland High School’s fun day a huge success
Learners and teachers have a blast at fun day.
On Friday (12 September) Sutherland High hosted its annual fun day, which turned out to be a huge success.
700 pupils from grades 8 to 11 joined in the fun. There was sumo wrestling where boys could compete against girls, tug of war, and the highlight of the day, box-cart racing.
Unfortunately the matric students couldn’t take part, as they are in the middle of their record exams.
The pupils were divided into eight houses competing against each other in a variety of challenges. One of the challenges was to design and build a car-themed marquee. The marquees had to be eco-friendly; this meant that all the materials used to construct them had to be second-hand or recycled. Using any new materials would result in the house losing points.
The parents and teachers also competed against each other in a tug of war.
Although the day involved sport, competition and some work, the main aim was for learners to have as much fun as possible, seeing that the end-of-year exams are just around the corner.
