Court escapees found – one killed
The men that were involved in the Pretoria Magistrates Court shooting last month were found and shot during a crime intelligence operation on Saturday.
A national man-hunt came to an end on Saturday when a man was shot and killed while another was injured during a crime intelligence operation over the weekend, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Khensani Magoai said.
This comes after two men, Nchabeleng Mahlatse (26) and Lucky Segopo (28), shot their way out of the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last month.
“A suspect (28) was shot and killed while another was injured when a shoot-out ensued between police and them during a crime intelligence driven operation in Yeoville, Johannesburg last night [Saturday],” Magoai said.
In August, the two men shot their way out of the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court shortly before their court apprearance for house robbery. A court orderly and a police officer were injured.
“The suspects were arrested at their hide-out in Dunber Street, Yeoville. When the police arrived at the house, the suspects pointed a firearm at them and one suspect was shot and killed. A firearm was also confiscated at the scene,” Magoai said.
Mahlatse is in hospital under police guard and is facing additional charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and pointing of a firearm.
Meanwhile, a 31-year old man is still on the run after he escaped from the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court during the shooting.
“Police are appealing to the public to come forward with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32222 or contact your nearest police station,” said Magoai.
