TUT lecturers to resume soon

TUT lectures will resume on Wednesday.

Lectures at all the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) campuses are scheduled to resume on Wednesday.

Willa de Ruyter, spokesperson for TUT said, “The university has taken this decision to ensure that the academic programme resumes as quickly as possible to enable our students to successfully complete the academic year.”

This follows a week-long closure of the University’s Tshwane-based campuses as a result of violent protest action by a group of students.

She said the university was aware of the concerns among the majority of students about the disruption of studies, caused by the protest action at the Ga-Rankuwa and Pretoria campuses.

Protests were sparked when some students were displeased with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) who, according to them, demanded that the students start paying their university fees.

Several students have complained earlier this semester that they were sent messages by the financial aid office, requesting them to start paying their fees as there was no budget in the aid scheme to support the students.
