The Wonderboompoort police have made various arrests the past week, including arrests for drunk driving, drug possession and suspected stolen property.
According to Warrent Officer Wanda Olivier, spokesperson of the Wonderboompoort police, two taxi drivers were arrested on Friday evening for drunk driving, while both taxi’s had passengers in the vehicle, and they drove over red lights. One of the taxi drivers did not have a valid driver’s licence.
On the same evening, the police arrested a man in Capital Park for possession of the drug, CAT.
“The 53-year-old man told the police that he is staying in Mamelodi, but he is in fact staying in Sunnyside. It is believed that the man was on his way to make a delivery,” Olivier said.
The next day, two brothers, previously arrested for drug related charges, housebreaking and theft were arrested when they tried to sell a stolen stepladder to a scrapmetal dealer.
On Monday morning, a married couple was arrested in Capital Park for possession of suspected stolen property, when members confronted them about an Isuzu double cab that had been reported stolen in Pretoria West earlier the day.
“They claimed to have paid R4 000 for the vehicle but could not provide evidence of ownership,” Olivier said.
On Thursday the police joined forces with the CPF patrollers to pull over a motorcyclist suspected of theft.
They searched the man and found several industrial drill bits in his possession and he was arrested for the possession of suspected stolen property.
On the same day, police made two arrests for possession of illegal substances.
The first person arrested was a 23-year old woman who was found with dagga and confessed that she had been using the drug since she was nine years old.
Police also arrested a 20-year old man for the possession of heroin after they received a tip-off about three suspicious men in a veld.
Another arrest for possession of illegal substances was made on Friday, when a man was arrested for possession of ten snatches of CAT, after police pulled over a silver Toyota.
“According to the 32-year-old man he is staying in Pretoria North. He was on his way to make a delivery when he was arrested and the members seized the CAT and handed it in as evidence,” Olivier said.
The Wonderboompoort police reported that the 30-year-old Mbuyisele Malakoane was convicted in the Gauteng Regional Court in Pretoria after he committed housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft, and murder.
On the counts of housebreaking and theft he was sentenced for five years, on the murder charge he received 15 years imprisonment. Three years on the charge of housebreaking and theft will run concurrently with the murder charge. The accused is also unfit to possess a firearm.
“It is alleged that he murdered a co-worker Jacob Cloete Klaasen in the backroom where he was staying on the premises at Brinktech in Paul Kruger Street during December 2012. The deceased, worked for Brinktech since January 2009. The alleged murderer worked for Brinktech only for two months when the crimes were committed.”
