Shoshanguve residents rising up to the Wonderpark municipality for better roads
Soshanguve residents march to the Wonderpark municipality due to lack of proper infrastructure.
Soshanguve residents are fed up with the lack of proper infrastructure in their area. They marched to the municipality of Wonderpark on Monday morning (15 September) to demand better main and internal roads in Shoshanguve South, extensions 5, 6, 7, 9D and Shoshanguve East.
The resident’s claim that the storm-water pipes leads the water to the road witch results in floods over the road which means they cannot access any roads or transport. The residents also demand street lights as the lack of street lights results in a higher crime rate.
Milton Ntuli, a representative of the community says that the EIA (Environment Impact Assessment) and the WULA (Water Utilisation License Agreement) have been approved but still nothing is being done to the roads.
The community representatives demanded an answer in seven days, and claim that they will march again with higher numbers if they receive no feedback from the municipality.
“Extensions 5 and 9D has been built 17 years ago and still after all this time nothing has been done to the roads. We are tired of not being heard“Says Ntuli. Ntuli also says that they have gone to the Councillor, Simon Marotra and that he has proved to them that he has been sending numerous emails to the MMC (Members of Meayer committee) but that no response has been given to him from the MMC.
Themba Mkhaliphi, a resident in Soshanguve says that he is not happy. “The roads and the transport is so bad that numerous people have been fired due to the fact that they are always late for work or sometimes they cannot go to work at all. The crime rates are also getting higher by the day, there are many rapes and robberies because there are no street lights”
“The rain is coming and we are all scared because we cannot leave our houses or get back to them once we are out because the roads are filled with water”Says Pelma Daloyi also a resident of Soshanguwe.
