Alternate refuse collection in Danville

Waste collection is a challenge for residents of Danville, with their waste being collected on alternate weeks.

Waste removal in Danville remains a challenge for some residents as their waste is only collected on alternate weeks over the past months.

“We are surprised with the new arrangement, which we were not informed about. I think the Tshwane metro should have informed us if they will not be collecting waste weekly,” said Lindie Sibeko.

She said the problem has existed for the past couple of months and the metro fails to give them answers as to what is happening.

Another resident in Danville’s refuse bin was stolen due to the alternate waste collection.

“I have to collect a replacement refuse bin at the waste depot after five weeks of e-mails and phone calls,” said Ade Adebesin.

“When we complained about this the metro gave us two phone numbers to call, which we did, but the situation remains the same. The men we called were not helpful,” said Adebesin.

He said when they called one of the numbers on a Thursday afternoon, the man said they must call him tomorrow.

Residents said they are in the dark about what is actually going on and question whether it is the staff not doing their work or a new policy on waste collection.

Sibeko told Rekord that she has on numerous occasions called the metro but did not receive any help.

“Is this the poor service that we Pretoria residents should take from our municipality? This is unacceptable because we are paying for these services.”

The Tshwane metro’s waste removal schedule on their website clearly states that collections in Danville are on Thursdays. No comment could be obtained from the metro on the situation in Danville.
