Two policemen shot and injured in Mabopane

Two policemen were shot on Friday night.

Two policemen were shot and injured in Mabopane on Friday night while trying to assist a man who was robbed, police said on Saturday.

“Two officers of Mabopane police were on patrol next to a Shell garage, when they were stopped by a man who alleged that he was robbed by three men armed with a firearm,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlhane.

She said the man alleged that he was robbed of R3 000.

“While the man was talking to the police, three men walked passed them and started to shoot at the police.”

Phatlhane said both policemen were taken to hospital.

“One of them was shot at the lower part of the body, his condition is stable. The other was shot in his upper body and he is in the intensive care unit.”

A case of attempted murder has been opened.

No arrests had as yet been made.
