Tshwane buses might be interrupted on Friday
Bus commuters are urged to use alternative transport on Friday as bus services could be disrupted to disciplinary proceedings of 20 drivers.
Bus commuters could be left stranded on Friday due to disciplinary proceedings against 20 Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) drivers following an illegal strike in July, the Tshwane metro council said.
“Given the planned sitting of the hearing, it is anticipated that there might be an unplanned disruption of the bus service on the day, therefore, commuters are advised to make alternative transport arrangements,” said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
Bus drivers were hit with the no-work-no-pay rule when they engaged in an illegal strike on 14-16 July. Mashigo said disciplinary hearings are scheduled for Friday.
“The City [of Tshwane] embarked on the disciplinary process in order to send a loud and clear message that acts of ill-discipline by its employees will not be tolerated,” he said.
Mashigo said the metro’s management encouraged all other bus drivers of the (TBS) to maintain the upright behavior and to continue to value the service that is rendered to commuters.
“Tshwane Bus Services would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused to our loyal commuters as a result of the disciplinary process and assure them that the full service will be restored as soon as the disciplinary process has been completed,” Mashigo said.
