Water shortages addressed in Gauteng

The Water and Sanitation committee are to meet with Rand Water to discuss solutions on water disruptions.

The Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation met with Rand Water on Friday afternoon to try to understand and find solutions for the continuing water shortages in the greater Gauteng.

This meeting was necessitated by the growing discontent among residents as well as the need on the committee’s side to set up a progress report on initiatives to solve the problem. They will also conduct a site inspection at the Palmiet pump station.

The committee’s aim is to seek solutions on how the province can deal with the problem of vandalism and theft.

This comes after various areas had been left without water for days on end due to theft of copper cables and vandalism at the Palmiet station.

The affected reservoirs include Rooihuiskraal, Brakfontein, Akasia, Lotus Garden, Magalies, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa Industrial area, Erasmia, The Reeds, Hartebeeshoek and Laudium.

The Tshwane metro dispatched water tankers to Soshanguve (block K,L and M), Kalafong Heights and hospital, Atteridgeville higher lying areas, Laudium Itereleng, Erasmia, Rooihuiskraal, Mooiplaats, Christoberg, Claudius, Gerhardsville, The Reeds, Blair Athol, Mndandi and Valhalla.
