Large areas of Groenkloof have been plunged into darkness since early Friday morning (3 October).
Democratic Alliance ward councillor Maggie Erasmus said power failed at around 04:30. City of Tshwane said on its Facebook page the outage was due to two faulty ring feeder cables.
“The depot is on site busy repairing the faulty cables,” the message said.
It is not clear when the power will be restored.
Affected residents are urged to report power failures by text message. SMS the word “power” followed by your account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.
Power failures can also be reported at 012 358 9999 (choose the electricity option) or 080 1111 556. During a power failure residents are cautioned to treat all electrical points as live and to switch off all non-essential appliances which will lessen the load on the electrical network.
