Informal trader recovers after being shot
Members of Tshwane Barekisi Forum worried about their lives after their secretary had been shot.
Tshwane Barekisi Forum is concerned about the mystery of the shooting incident that left their secretary, Eliot Nkadimeng, seriously injured, deputy secretary of Tshwane Barekisi Forum, Marry Ngema said.
Nkadimeng was shot three times on the upper-body and neck after a taxi dropped him off near his home in Nellmapius last Monday.
The incident happened just a day before Tshwane Barekisi Forum, together with organisations including South African Communist Party, Congress of South African Trade Unions and ANC Youth League, held a media briefing on the joint march against alleged corruption in the Tshwane metro.
The march took place from Marabastad to the Union Buildings last Friday.
Although none of the organisations had a clue of what the reason behind the shooting could be, the incident left the forum and other organisations in a state of shock. They are pondering the thought if it was related to the planned march of informal traders against alleged metro corruption and metro police brutality in the city centre. Nkadibeng is one of the leaders who are in the forefront of the fight against alleged metro corruption.
The forum’s suspicions were justly based on alleged repeated police brutality against Nkadimeng. They revealed that police had arrested him several times without any case being opened against him.
“Although we are not afraid of being killed, we are worried about who is actually behind the attack. Such information will inform us if our lives are also on the line,” Ngema said.
She said they did not want to blame anyone without any prove regarding the matter but they remain cautious.
The family of Nkadimeng does not want anyone, including members of the forum, to visit him in hospital.
“Nkadimeng’s family told us that he is recovering well at the hospital and he is able to speak know,” Ngema said.
Nkadimeng’s family is still struggling to cope with the unfortunate incident and unable to express their views about the shooting at this stage.
