Robber dies while robbing a victim

A robber died on the Mabopane Highway while trying to rob a man on Tuesday evening.

An armed robbery turned bad on Tuesday evening when a robber was hit by a taxi and died.

The robber was chasing after a 36-year-old man when the man ran over the street in front of a Quantum that hit the robber.

Andrew Masekoameng (36) from Soshanguve Block SS, was on his way to work when he saw two men sitting between the bushes near the passage he uses to work.

“I had just got off the taxi and was walking to work. I saw two men sitting near the passage I usually use. I then turned and started running from them. Both men chased me and I ran along the road and tried to stop the vehicles but they drove past.”

Masekoameng said he stopped running, thinking the men stopped chasing him, when suddenly one of the men came at him.

“I told him if he wanted money I can give it to him. Without saying a word he suddenly started stabbing me. I fought to get away from him and ran over the road. The robber still chasing me, ran in front of a Quantam that hit him,” he said.

After the incident, Masekoameng was taken to hospital where he was treated and released the same night.

Hercules police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the robber was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

“The robber has not been identified. Cases of robbery against the dead robber and culpable homicide against the driver of the taxi have been opened at the Hercules police station.”

Msimango said for quite some time they have not had any incidents taking place at the passage.
