Mams residents fear suspected serial killer

Police are still waiting for the DNA results of the body of a woman found in a dumpster. The community suspect there could be a serial killer on the loose in Mamelodi.

The police are still waiting for the DNA results of the body of a woman found smouldering in a dumpster.

The body was found by a nyaope addict in an open veld in Mamelodi East, Extension 6 behind Phundzo Ndi Tshedza Primary School on 10 September. It is one of three bodies that was found dumped around Mamelodi last month, resulting in the public attacking a man they believed to be the killer. Police spokesperson, Donia Mothutlane, commented on the case: “We are still waiting for the results, but police are busy with the investigations. We still cannot confirm the allegations of a serial killer on the loose in Mamelodi.” Police have not made any arrests.

Following rumours of a suspected serial killer luring victims by pretending to be a nighttime taxi operator, the chairperson of the Mamelodi 4+1 Taxi Association, Strike Mtshweni, promised to mark all local taxis operating in the area. “We want to inform Mamelodi residents that by the end of this month, all taxis will be marked.”

The chairperson of the community policing forum (CPF) in Mamelodi East, Eddie Mnguni, added that efforts to enhance community safety were being made. “We have never stopped our day and night patrols to keep our community safe. There is a group that is patrolling in the morning and also one in the evening. We have also joined forces with the South African National Civic Organisation, street committees and neighbourhood watches around Mamelodi.”

Police and the CPF are appealing to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10 111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
