Farewell to murdered pupil
Fellow pupils and teachers bid fare well to Thabo Tshabalala who was stabbed to death.
Mamelodi schoolboy Thabo Tshabalala (14) was buried at the weekend after he was stabbed to death by another pupil.
Family, friends, teachers, pupils and their parents bid an emotional farewell to Thabo on Saturday.
Some pupils battled to fought back tears as they watched the body of their former classmate from Extension 10 in Mamelodi East being taken from the Stanza Bopape Hall in Extension 5 to its final resting place in Heatherly Cemetery in Nellmapius.
Thabo died on the first day of the school third term after he was stabbed three times with a knife by a fellow pupil at Bula-Dikgoro Primary School.
By the time the police and the paramedics arrived he was already declared dead.
That same morning his mother Dina (34) gave birth to a baby girl.
Among the guests at his funeral were Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, Mamelodi ward councillors and members of the community.
Thabo’s Uncle Andries Tshabalala said: “Thabo was a good person who loved his school work and never had a quarrel with anyone at school. It is painful for parents to bury their children. We have buried Thabo with dignity and respect. May his soul rest in peace.”
Tshabalala said he hoped the law would take its course because his nephew’s life was cut so short. “All the family wants is for justice to be served.”
