Assault video launches manhunt
Police are still searching for two men after a video went viral of a Durban man being assaulted and threatened at gunpoint.
The Laudium police are still on the hunt for two men after a video of a man being beaten, sworn at and threatened by three other men was circulated in the community and on the social media.
“We are still investigating. We only detained one of the suspects on Friday who was brought in for questioning. He has been charged but is not in detention,” said spokesperson Captain Reed Steynberg.
The three videos, each two minutes long, show a young man, reportedly Aadil Osman from Durban, being assaulted and intimidated at gunpoint in the backseat of a car for allegedly contacting the fiancé of one of his attackers, who’s apparently known as Chicky Lamba. The attackers also threatened to kill him.
Apparently the three men are feared in the community. One of them calls himself ‘Desperado’.
“We received the video footage from a community member on Thursday and on Friday we arrested the man that was sitting in the backseat. He came in for questioning and gave us a statement before he was released,” said Laudium police spokesperson, Captain Reed Steynberg.
Steynberg said the victim did not report the incident but a case of assault, intimidation and negligent use of a firearm is being investigated.
“We are also trying to find out when and where the incident happened. Our colonel and investigating officer are in contact with the victim for an official statement. We will continue to investigate even if he does not open a case.”
The video has spawned many Chicky Lamba memes and parodies on social media, many of which have quotes from the video.
