Police arrest 138 people

Ga-Rankuwa police arrested 138 suspects in an intensive anti-crime operation that began at the weekend and ended on Tuesday afternoon.

A total of 138 people have been arrested in Ga-Rankuwa in an anti-crime swoop that ended on Tuesday afternoon.

Police had been crisscrossing several crime hotspots in the cluster since the weekend, said spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi.

Those arrested included people found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, road traffic offenders, and people in possession of suspected stolen goods.

“We managed to embark on a successful operation during the weekend and we crossed the operation over to weekdays. This is aimed to make sure that our cluster is safe and crime free before and after the festive seasons,” he said.

Nkoadi said several people were arrested in connection with malicious damage to property and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“We also took into custody a man for intimidation and a couple of illegal immigrants who didn’t have passports or permits to be in the country.”
