Police clamp down on crime

"We are trying to decrease crime in our area and these operations will carry on randomly because they produce good results and we manage arrest people for various crimes," said Mangena.

Ninety seven people were arrested over the weekend for various crimes ranging from possession of dagga, drunk driving, and assault, Soshanguve police said on Monday.

According to police spokesman Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena they were increasing police visibility to combat crime in the area and also increase residents’ trust in the police.

“We are trying to decrease crime in our area and these operations will carry on randomly because they produce good results and we manage to arrest people for various crimes,” said Mangena.

He said some of the people were arrested for possession of suspected stolen items, assault, and theft. “We appeal to the public to work hand in hand with police to reduce crime in our area, we appeal to residents to report any crime that is witnessed to be happening.”

Mangena said residents should not park their vehicles in deserted areas, because criminals often prey on motorists who are seen parked in such areas. “We have had many cases where people were hijacked because they were parked in remote areas. Motorists should park where there is a lot of people around.”

He said the people arrested over the weekend will appear at the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court soon.
