VIDEO: Dozen dead puppies found in fridge
About 12 puppy carcassess were found frozen in a fridge at an illegal animal clinic in Proclamation Hill on Tuesday.
The carcasses of several puppies were found frozen in a fridge at an illegal animal clinic in Proclamation Hill on Tuesday.
A special police task force and the metro police made this gruesome discovery when they pounced on the clinic on the corner of WF Nkomo and Quagga roads.
This came after a complaint about the Pretoria West animal clinic was laid at the police and metro police. Upon investigation it was discovered that a veterinary doctor was running the clinic illegally.
Police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said several animals were found on the premises, some of which were still alive.
“Two men, aged 23 and 45, were found at the clinic. They claimed the owner of the clinic was not there and had another practice in Randfontein.”
Huma said expired medicine was found at the practice as well as the veterinary doctor’s certificate to practise. It expired in 2009. She said a police firearm and a magazine were discovered, and it appeared as if a police officer was living on the premises. This would form part of their investigation.
“We found about 12 dead puppies. Two other dogs and a cat were alive.”
An inspector from the Tshwane SPCA, Andrew Kekana said the two dogs ,a Great Dane and an Alsatian, were not well and would be taken to the SPCA for treatment.
Huma said the owner of the clinic and his workers would be charged with practising illegally, being in the possession and of animal cruelty.
The police investigation is continuing.
