Operation will continue until December holiday

Police continue with their annual pre-holiday stop and search operation.

The Mamelodi East police have recently arrested 40 people during stop-and-search operations .

The operations form part of the police’s annual pre-holiday season activities which were launched on 6 October.

Warrant officer, Michael Mbewe said: “Among the arrested suspects, 11 were charged for public drinking, 13 for assault, five for possession of drugs, one for malicious damage to property, nine for road traffic offences and failure to appear in court.

“All the suspects are between 19 and 55 years old. They will appear in court soon,” Mbewe said.

The stop-and-search operations will continue until December.

Meanwhile vehicle spare parts to an estimated value of R50 000 or more were seized during a recent operation.

“The spares were found in an unoccupied yard in Lusaka after a tip-off. No one was arrested but investigations are underway,” Mbewe said.
