Meyiwa’s killers still on the loose

Police have released identikits of two men suspected to be involved in Meyiwa's killing, and have offered a R250 000 reward for information that leads to the suspects' arrest.

The provincial police has noted with concern media reports circulating that two people have already been arrested for the murder of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates caption Senzo Meyiwa.

Brigadier Neville Malila said in a media statement that no arrests have as yet been made. The police have interviewed two people in connection with the murder on Sunday night, but they were released when they could not be linked to the case.

“Neither of the people we brought in for questioning could be linked to the crime. No arrests have been made. Investigations will continue and investigators are following up on all leads received through Twitter, Facebook, CrimeStop and Crime Line,” Malila said.

He stressed that interviewing possible witnesses or suspects was an integral part of the normal investigative processes.

The police have released two identikits of Meyiwa’s suspected killers. Meyiwa was shot and killed on Sunday night at his friend’s house near Johannesburg during an attempted house robbery.

The police have launched a manhunt and are offering a R250 000 reward for information that could lead to arrests.

Malila said the alleged robbers could be anywhere in South Africa and urged community members not to confront them, but to contact the police immediately.
