A 30-year-old Hammanskraal man has been sentenced to15 years imprisonment at the Moretele magistrates court on Tuesday for killing his girlfriend, police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi told Rekord.
“The man, Simon Maluleka, assaulted his girlfriend in May 2010 at his home in Stinkwater, Temba. His girlfriend was taken to the Jubilee hospital with injuries and died a few days later,” said Moremi.
Maluleka was initially charged with assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm but was later charged with murder after the death of the 34-year-old woman.
“The court declared that he was unfit to possess a firearm and was imprisoned for 15 years,” Moremi said.
