Two alleged Eskom employees will appear at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court soon after police found six transformers valued at R650 000 at a house in Sallie Gardens, Karen Park on Thursday night, Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.
The arrest comes after the Soshanguve K9 Unit and the Ga-Rankuwa trio crime task team followed information that led to the discovery of the stolen transformers.
“It is alleged that the two suspects are employees of Eskom in Limpopo. When police pounced on the house, one of the suspects saw them through the window. He locked the front door and they both tried to escape through the back door,” Tsinyane explained.
After police chased the men, Tsinyane said one of them was apprehended while the other jumped into the neighbour’s yard.
“He was stopped by a police dog as he was crossing from one yard to another and started fighting with a police officer during his arrest. The transformers were confiscated and the investigation continues.”
