Cyclist breaks leg in hit-and-run accident

Foreign national hit by car while cycling in Centurion.

A gardener working in Centurion has been injured in a hit-and-run accident in Wierda Park.

Binwell Chavull, a Malawian national with a work permit, was on his bicycle when he was hit by a car on the corner of Ruimte Road and Piet Hugo Street in Wierda Park. The driver of the car fled the scene, and no one has come forward with any information.

Someone alerted emergency services and Chavull was taken to Kalafong hospital to be treated for various injuries, including a broken leg.

“I have no idea who hit me. I just woke up in the hospital with a broken leg,” says Chavull.

“There was hardly any traffic at the time. The person just drove up from behind me, and started pushing me. I have no idea why anybody would do this.”
