Cable thieves targets Irene, Doringkloof

Residents without power after more cable theft.

Parts of Centurion including Irene and Doringkloof were on Saturday morning plunged into darkness when thieves broke into the Waterkloof substation and stole power cables.

Christa Spoelstra, DA councillor of ward 65, said the theft occurred in the early morning at around 02:00.

“Power cables for Irene and Centurion Estate were stolen and Doringkloof’s cables were damaged as the thieves attempted to cut and steal it,” she said.

The entire Irene and parts of Centurion Estate was on Saturday afternoon still without power.

Power was earlier today (Saturday) restored to Doringkloof.

Spoelsta says the Tshwane metro has indicated that the power outage in the affected areas is being attended to and is expected to be restored by this evening.
