Police step up anti-crime campaigns

Ga-Rankuwa police have stepped up their efforts to combat crime in their five clusters ahead of the festive season.

Ga-Rankuwa police have stepped up their approach to combat criminal activities in their five clusters ahead of the festive season. They have introduced various weekly anti-crime operations aimed at combating crime in the area.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the operations will cover various areas – including Mabopane, Soshanguve, Pretoria North and Akasia – for the duration of the festive season. “Last week we started in Ga-Rankuwa with a robust zero tolerance crime operation over the weekend and other teams continued on weekdays. A total of 359 suspects were arrested for various criminal activities.”

Nkoadi said the operation was conducted in conjunction with the Tshwane metro police, provincial traffic department, home affairs and the police’s tactical response unit. “All these law enforcers help us make sure the operation is a success, leaving no stone unturned. Among the suspects arrested were a number of illegal gamblers, people drinking in public, drunken driving, murder and possession of dagga.”

Nkoadi said there were also a number of people who were arrested for committing home burglaries and shoplifting. All arrested people will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve and Pretoria North magistrates courts soon.

He appealed to residents to contact the police when they suspect criminal activities in their areas. “We have noted criminals target residents during this time of the year and are warning them to be vigilant of their surroundings. Our members will be operating 24-hours a day across the area,” Nkoadi concluded.
