Metro cop nabbed after robbery

A Tshwane metro police officer has been arrested for allgedly robbing a Pakistani.

A Tshwane metro police officer and another man have been arrested for allegedly robbing a man delivering bread in Atteridgeville, police said on Tuesday.

Atteridgeville police station spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said the three men, including a metro police officer, followed a Pakistani man who was delivering bread to a shop in Atteridgeville.

“They asked him who the driver of the truck delivering bread was and demanded to see his licence.” Mufamadi said one of the men produced identification that he was a Tshwane metro police officer.

“The driver of the bread truck alleged that the men took him to his truck and started searching him while one of them pointed a firearm at him.”

An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the truck driver, said Mufamadi.

“We managed to arrest two of the suspects and one of them is a Tshwane metro police officer. A manhunt is on for the remaining suspect.”

Efforts to get comment form Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba had yielded no success by the time of going to print.

In another crime, an unidentified body of a man with several wounds was found in Atteridgeville on Monday morning next to Hofmeyer High School.

“We found the body of a man who had open wounds on his forehead and legs and he was barefoot, his body lying next to Hofmeyer High School on Mafole Street,” Mufamadi said.

A murder docket had been opened.
