School refuses child her report
A school in the west of Pretoria has refused a grade 7 pupil her final year-end report on Wednesday.

Gauteng education authorities had reacted with outrage to the refusal of a school to issue a child her annual report due to unpaid school fees.
“We will immediately contact the school to ascertain these allegations and if found to be true, necessary actions will be taken to rectify this,” said provincial education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane.
She said it was not the pupil’s fault if parents had failed to pay fees in full by the end of the year.
On Wednesday, a child was denied her year-end report due to her parents not paying her school fees in full.
The pupil’s grandmother, Annetjie van der Schyff, said she went to the school to get her granddaughter’s report and was told by a teacher she could not have the child’s report without the child’s fees being paid in full.
“It is wrong what the school is doing. I know and they should also know that no child can be denied her school report because of outstanding school fees,” said Van der Schyff.
Sekhonyane said: “It is definitely not departmental policy to deny learners access to their report cards or exclude them from any academic activities on the basis that their parents have not paid school fees.”
Van der Schyff said her granddaughter’s stepmother went to the school to make an arrangement on the outstanding fees so that she can get the report. Her granddaughter was promoted to grade 8 next year.
