Man arrested with 108 packets dagga

A man was arrested at Bremer informal settlement in possession of dagga.

A man was caught with 108 small packets of dagga at the Bremer informal settlement in Booysens at the weekend, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said a metro police officer approached a man sitting under a tree on Sunday afternoon and asked to search him.

“Upon searching the man, the officer found a plastic bag with dagga. The man was arrested and taken to the police station.”

Msimango said the man apparently gave some money to his friend before he was searched and only R420 was found on him.

Hercules community policing forum chairperson Conrad Naudé said: “We have been struggling with drug problems for almost three years now. The problem is dealers get arrested, they are then released and start selling again.”

Msimango said: “We are aware of the drug problem in our area. We are working hard to intensify searches at places well-known for drugs. We also stop and search people standing at odd places.”

Msmango said the man was charged for being in possession of dagga.
