One of the Waterkloof Four convicted killers, Christoff Becker was released on parole on Tuesday (16 December), the department of correctional services said.
“The department of correctional services confirms that offender Christoff Becker was released on parole yesterday [Tuesday] as per order of the court,” said spokesperson Logan Maistry.
Maistry said the department was awaiting finalisation of its application for leave to appeal the parole.
Becker, Frikkie du Preez, Reinach Tiedt, and Gert van Schalkwyk were released on bail in February after they were convicted in 2005, following the murder of a homeless man in 2001.
Becker and Du Preez had their parole revoked shortly after their release in February when video footage emerged of the pair having a party and allegedly drinking alcohol in the Kgosi Mampuru Prison. The two were also accused of having access to a cellphone during their time in jail.
