Man wreaks havoc on Gautrain
A man was arrested on Saturday after vandalising two Gautrain carriages with a blunt object.
A man was arrested at the Gautrain Pretoria station on Saturday evening after smashing several windows of two carriages and almost injuring a passenger and his pregnant wife.
Gautrain spokesperson Errol Braithwaite said the man apparently boarded the train around 20:30 when he pulled out a blunt instrument which he used to smash the windows.
According to reports, a passenger and his pregnant wife were inside one of the carriages when the man started wreaking havoc.
The couple got off the train before it left the station with the rampaging man still inside and only later collected their luggage when the train returned.
Braithwaite said Gautrain security was alerted by the driver and were waiting on the platform at Pretoria station along with police.
“The man was arrested on the train when it pulled into the station and a case of malicious damage to property has been opened,” he said.
Braithwaite said no one was injured. “Gautrain is in contact with another passenger who witnessed part of the incident and who may be able to assist with the investigation,” he said.
