Two men are wanted for house robbery in the Knoppieslaagte smallholdings, Erasmia police said on Wednesday.
According to police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto, it is alleged that a 73-year-old man was sleeping in his house on Tuesday when he heard something breaking.
“Two armed men stormed into his bedroom, pointing a firearm at him. They stole one Apple Notebook, two cameras, two Nokia cellphones and clothing valued at R39 000.”
Moloto said the robbers shot the home owner in the upper body and fled the scene on foot. He said no one was arrested and a case of house robbery and attempted murder has been opened.
“We appeal to the public or any person with information that can assist the police with the investigation to come forward or report to the nearest police station.”
In an unrelated incident two men aged 28 and 38 were arrested in Erasmia with false vehicle registration plates, tools to break into vehicles and car jamming devices.
Police impounded a VW Golf GTI with false registration plates. “Officers on routine patrol spotted a vehicle fitted with false registration plates, and as they tried to stop the vehicle, a high speed chase followed until the vehicle was stopped by police,” Moloto said.
He said one of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled. Three suspects were arrested. “Upon searching the vehicle police found false number plates, screw drivers, spanners and allen keys which are used to break into vehicles.”
Moloto said there were several false registration plates believed to be ready for use when a vehicle was stolen. He said investigations were continuing as it was suspected that the men were part of a gang dealing in stolen vehicles around Pretoria.
He said the men would appear in Atteridgeville magistrate’s court once they had been charged formally.
