Another Tshwane metro police officer has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a motorist, spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said on Thursday.
The 37-year-old metro officer stopped the motorist in Hammanskraal on Wednesday. The motorist apparently acknowledged that his car was not roadworthy.
“The police member allegedly told the motorist that he will not be fined, but asked for R100 bribe instead. The motorist initially refused to pay the bribe but the officer allegedly insisted on the money,” said Mahamba.
Mahamba said the arrest came after the motorist reported the officer.
Earlier in the week, two other metro police officers were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from CrimeLine head Yusuf Abramjee.
Mahamba said the metro police department is concerned about corruption among their members.
“We are hoping our members conduct themselves in a better way and avoid soliciting money from the community which we serve. We advise the public to report any corruption from our members as we condemn this.”
The metro officer is expected to appear at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court soon.
