Two men driving a hijacked Toyota Hilux bakkie were arrested in Villieria on Thursday.
Police spokeswoman Captain Colette Weilbach said police officers were on patrol in Midrand when they received an alert about the bakkie, which was hijacked in Johannesburg earlier in the week.
The vehicle was moving towards Pretoria on the N1-highway around 21:30.
“Police officers from Midrand who were also on the N1-highway at the time and immediately tried to locate the vehicle. With the assistance of Car Track, the police followed the vehicle to Pretoria where it was pulled over on the corner of Nico Smit Street and 30th Avenue in Villieria.”
The two men inside the hijacked vehicle and were arrested. She said the police searched them and found a knife in the driver’s possession.
The two, a 31-year-old man from Soweto and a 69-year-old man from Hammanskraal will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court next week.
Police would continue their investigation to determine whether the men could be linked to the hijacking, Weilbach said.
