Police were on Thursday still searching for the serial rapist who escaped from the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s court in December where he was due to appear for sentencing.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, said that attempts to find Lungisani Mdlolo had been unsuccessful.
“We have been following the leads that were given to us, but we still have not been able to locate him,” he said.
The manhunt for Mdlolo was continuing throughout the country.
“We still don’t know where he is or could be. We are looking for him everywhere, including in Pretoria,” he explained.
Dlamini said a police officer was believed to have assisted Mdlolo in his escape.
“A case has been opened against one officer who might have helped Mdlolo to escape. He has since been suspended.”
Mdlolo was found guilty on a charge of murder, three of rape, five of armed robbery, and ten of housebreaking. He was also convicted of possessing an unlicensed firearm and pointing a firearm.
