BAT truck robbed of half its merchandise
Four armed men are on the run after they robbed a cigarette in East Lynne on Tuesday.
A British American Tobacco (BAT) truck had been robbed of half of its merchandise on Tuesday afternoon.
Villieria police spokesperson Captain Koba Brits said this happened around 14:00 in Fourie Avenue in East Lynne.
The driver of the BAT truck pressed his panic button as four robbers started unpacking the cigarette truck. A Fidelity Security response vehicle was dispatched to the scene. On its arrival, the men were still offloading the truck.
“The security company and the robbers fired shots at each other before the culprits fled the scene,” Brits said.
She said that the robbers escaped in a grey Audi A4 with half of the BAT merchandise.
An armed robbery docket had been opened and police were investigating.
