Man nabbed after Mamelodi shootout
A man was arrested after a shootout between robbers and the police.
Mamelodi police have arrested a 38-year-old man after a shoot-out with the police.
He was taken into custody in Mamelodi East, Extension 6 on Tuesday afternoon after being wounded by police.
Police reacted swiftly after receiving a call about a business robbery in Mamelodi and traced the vehicle used by the robbers.
Mamelodi East police spokesperson, Michael Mbewe said: “Police spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it. It sped off and the suspects started shooting at the police.”
The police returned fire and wounded one of occupants of the fleeing car. He was arrested and was being treated in hospital under police guard. The other robbers ran away.
“We could not confirm how many suspects were in the vehicle, which was hijacked in Bronkorstspruit earlier this month,” said Mbewe.
The man would appear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court soon on several criminal charges.
