Police warn against false statements
The Silverton police have warned the public against opening false statements as they will be charged with perjury.
The Silverton police have issued a stern warning against the clients of prostitutes who give false statements to the police station after falling victim to criminal activity.
According to police, most of these men were in the company of prostitutes when they were robbed.
Captain Jan Sepato, police spokesperson, said the station recently found that some men had laid charges of robberies and hijackings that happened at the corner of the old Bronkhorstspruit Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive.
“Police found that some of the men who claimed they were victims of crime had been involved with prostitutes in bushes nearby when the crimes occurred,” Sepato said.
Sepato said that after the robbers and hijackers were arrested, police would ask the victims to attend the identification parade.
“But most of the men did not pitch out of fear that their wives and families might find out what they were doing when they were robbed,” he said.
Sepato could at the time not confirm how many men were suspected to have made false statements.
He warned that those guilty of making false statements, will be charged with perjury.
