Another delivery van hijacked
A second delivery vehicle in less than ten days was hijacked in Centurion on Friday.
A British American Tobacco delivery vehicle was hijacked in Kosmosdal, Centurion on Friday morning. The vehicle was stocked with boxes of cigarettes.
Monitor Net spokesman Theo Petzer said the vehicle was delivering cigarettes to a retail store in the area when several armed robbers confronted the driver just before 08:00.
It is believed at least hijackers were involved. The robbers forced the driver out of the delivery vehicle, jumped in and fled the scene with Monitor Net and Olievehoutbosch police in persuit.
Monitor Net reaction officer Nick Christostomou and police recovered the vehicle at the corner of Samrand and Rooihuiskraal roads and found an undisclosed amount of cigarettes still inside the van.
No arrests were made and the robbers fled in an unidentified brown Honda. The amount of cigarettes stolen could not be confirmed at the time.
The Kosmosdal hijacking follows the seizure of a cellphone delivery vehicle by four armed men in Doringkloof last Thursday. Those hijackers ordered the driver, his crew and a security guard on duty into the delivery van and drove off.
They pulled up close to a nursery school a few blocks away where they loaded the cellphones into a white Mercedes-Benz, locked their victims into the back of the delivery van and fled.
No arrests have been made yet.
