Copper thieves target Hennopspark
Residents of Hennopspark are left in the dark as cable thieves stole some 50m of copper cables on Monday.
Several residents of Hennopspark have been left without electricity after five men stole copper cables on Monday, Ward 78 Councillor Peter Sutton said.
The cables were stripped from a street-light pole on the corner of Roscommon and Galway streets in the early hours of the morning.
“Around 02:20 this morning, a resident said he heard a loud bang of a pole falling over. He saw five men cutting cables before they fled with their loot,” he said.
Sutton said the cable thieves took about 50m of copper cables.
“The Tshwane metro is at the scene to repair the power outage. Tshwane metro police officials secured the scene in the morning and were regulating traffic.”
Sutton said this was the third cable theft in the street the past week.
No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
